The Small Embossing Hammer is used to form small raised areas by hammering from the inside in preparation for chasing or general shaping. This hammer leaves a very fine dimpled texture that can be greatly varied by the strength of the blow. Made of 420 stainless steel and Padauk wood.
Embossing is the stretching of the metal by hammering from the inside. This hammer is also used to form flutes and form the metal while it is supported by pitch or wax. This would be similar to chasing but is done by directly striking the metal with the appropriate hammer.
